History of Homenetmen Arax
In 1975 Homenetmen Arax stretched its wings to form a scouting group in Melbourne with Y. Garo Shahbaz as the first group leader. He was already a King Scout which was the highest, most venerated award in the scouting association. Nowadays, Homenetmen Arax has 7 basketball teams and 3 futsal teams as well as a scout group with over 30 members all of varying ages.Homenetmen Australia currently has 5 chapters representing different areas: - Antranig (1965): Sydney North Shore - Arax (1966): Melbourne - Navasart (1973): Sydney Western Suburbs - Gamk (1981): Sydney Eastern Suburbs - Ararat (1989): Sydney Northern District
With the motto Partsratsir Partsratsour which translates to “Elevate yourself and elevate others with you”, Homenetmen will continue to prepare physically and mentally strong Armenians and exemplary citizens with the highest social virtues.

Early 1965, under the guidance of Y. Haig Avakian and Y. Hagop Zaratsian in conjunction with Y. Garo Adomian, Y. Nishan Khatchadourian and Y. Berdj Daghavarian saw the foundations put in place for the first Homenetmen branch established in Melbourne.In October 1966, the first Homenetmen meeting took place with 25 members in the home of Y. Garo Adomian where the Homenetmen constitution was read. From this meeting 5 members were elected to form our inaugural “Arax Committee”. These members were:- Y. Kaloust Ipradjian (President)- Y. Garo Adomian (Secretary)- Y. John Asalian (Treasurer)- Y. Nishan Khatchadourian (Adviser)- Y. Berdj Daghavarian (Adviser)
In the first instance, the newly formed committee established basketball and soccer teams with Y. Garo Adomian coaching the men’s basketball team and Y. John Asalian the woman’s team. Y.
